You have a hard time knowing what to do with the hurt and pain, but know something just doesn’t feel right within you. Maybe you’re reading this and wondering if therapy is even the right choice to address the ‘feels wrong’. That can feel really confusing and immobilizing. Is it my family? Low self-esteem? Am I unhappy in my job and relationships? Is the surrounding culture and fear of today wearing me down? At times, people experience clarity around which conflict contributes to their emotional discomfort, but more often people’s causes are complex and multilayered.
I really enjoy working with people who know something is wrong, but don’t know how all the pieces fit together. If you’re experiencing confusion alongside anxiety and depression, then we can do some good work together. We’ll investigate the parts of your life in order to highlight where the pain points are, creating a sense of clarity and understanding around who you are. It feels great knowing who you are! Us working together will be the springboard for you to then take action and make choices in your life. Not from confusion and discomfort, but from confidence. My job is to collaborate together with you.
I grew up within several overlapping cultures: living in Chicago, being Jamaican, a woman, and identifying as black. Therapy was not the default option! I’m really thankful for the examples of people in my personal life who utilized resources for their own health and growth- deciding to care for themselves and becoming a more healthy, whole person. Sadly, I also remember people turning away from mental health resources and remaining stuck. These real life models inspired me to not only seek out mental health for myself, but also become a provider who can offer healing to others.
Because of my upbringing, I am especially passionate about giving back to my own community. I personally understand the barriers. While culture is much more than representation, I believe that representation does matter. I strive to be a multicultural woman who combines my professional skills of helping people with my personal identity to provide excellent care.
